The snowpack tracker runs October through July — snow-water equivalent and runoff forecasts only tell you something useful while there's still snow in the mountains. The 2026 season has wrapped; the 2027 season starts building in October.
What we track here
When the season is active, this page shows headline snowpack figures for every state we cover, a cross-state ranking of basins by snowpack, and the seasonal runoff outlook translated into fishing terms — early or late runoff, high or low summer flows, and which waters hold up best. The data comes from NRCS SNOTEL stations and (in California) the CDEC snow-sensor network, refreshed daily.
