South Fork Reservoir lies at about 5,200 feet south of Elko, a reservoir of about 1,600 acres on the South Fork of the Humboldt inside South Fork State Recreation Area. It holds stocked rainbows and browns along with largemouth and smallmouth bass and wipers, and its fishing is close to Spring Creek and Elko.
Trout fishing is best in the cool months, from fall through spring, when leeches and woolly buggers on a sinking line work along the shore and the inlet. Summer is bass season. Black bass are catch and release from March through June, and the South Fork of the Humboldt below the reservoir falls under the same rules.
