About Jordanelle Reservoir

Jordanelle holds the Provo River above Heber, at about 6,200 feet, and since it filled in the 1990s it has become one of the busiest lakes in the state, ten minutes from Park City. Jordanelle State Park runs it from two sides: Hailstone on the west, with the marina and the big ramp, and Rock Cliff on the east, where the Provo comes in and the water stays quiet.

For a fly angler, Rock Cliff and the Provo inlet are the place to start. Rainbows and browns follow the river's cold water and the food it brings, and the shallow arms around it fish well from a float tube in spring and fall. Smallmouth bass hold on the rocky shores and points through the summer and come readily to crayfish patterns and small poppers. Summer afternoons bring boats and wind to the main lake, so mornings and evenings are the time. Trout follow the statewide limit here; the one special rule is a limit of 6 bass.
