Wyoming Snowpack & River Runoff

Snow-water equivalent by basin and the seasonal runoff outlook for Wyoming's rivers, translated into what it means for fishing — early or late runoff, high or low summer flows, and which waters hold up best. Updated daily through the snow season.

Wyoming's snowpack came up short of average this year — at 72% of normal statewide, expect runoff to peak earlier than the long-term average and summer flows to thin by late July. Plan to fish higher and earlier than usual, or shift to dam-regulated water once the freestones drop.

Tailwaters become the safer bet by August. Smaller freestones can still fish well in June, but be ready to move higher or earlier in the day as flows drop and temperatures climb.

Runoff forecasts are the projected seasonal streamflow volume versus the long-term average, issued monthly January–June. Only rivers with a published forecast point show one.

Snowpack percentages compare current basin snow-water content to historical norms; the Wyoming figure is statewide, not specific to any one basin. Snowpack varies with elevation and aspect — treat basin figures as a guide. Updated May 17, 2026.
