Colorado
Lake Granby fills the upper Colorado River valley at about 8,300 feet below Rocky Mountain National Park, a Reclamation reservoir of about 7,000 acres in the Arapaho National Recreation Area. It is known for big lake trout and kokanee, with rainbows and browns, and it stores water pumped east under the Continental Divide.
For fly anglers it fishes best right after ice-off, when lake trout and rainbows come into the shallows and inlets and take streamers and chironomids, and again in fall when lake trout spawn on rocky shoals. Through summer the lake trout drop deep. Columbine Bay, by the Twin Creek inlet, closes from mid-October through November to protect spawning fish, and kokanee may be snagged from September through December elsewhere.
