Dillon Reservoir sits at about 9,000 feet in Summit County, Denver Water's largest reservoir at about 3,200 acres, ringed by Dillon, Frisco and Silverthorne. It is one of the few places in the West with arctic char, and it also holds browns, rainbows, kokanee and some lake trout. The water stays cold all year.
The bays where the Blue River, Tenmile Creek and Snake River come in fish best for fly anglers, after ice-off and in fall, with streamers and leeches for browns and char and chironomids for rainbows. Summer boat traffic is heavy and the afternoon wind is strong, so early mornings are best. Char must be 20 inches to keep, and browns over 14 inches go back.
