Frenchman Lake sits at about 5,600 feet where the Sierra forest meets the sage, north of Chilcoot and close enough to Reno for an evening trip. It covers about 1,600 acres on Little Last Chance Creek and is stocked with rainbows, including the Eagle Lake strain, which grow well and fight hard.
The coves and points on the west and north sides fish best from ice-off into June and again in fall, on leeches, damsels and chironomids, and the shore near the campgrounds gives easy bank access. Like Lake Davis nearby, it can warm and slow in midsummer. Statewide trout rules apply.
