Wyoming
Alcova Reservoir fills a red-rock canyon on the North Platte at about 5,500 feet, below Pathfinder and above Gray Reef, about 30 miles southwest of Casper. It covers about 2,400 acres, its level holds fairly steady, and it is a popular summer lake for boating as well as fishing. It holds rainbows, browns and walleye.
Trout fishing is best in spring and fall, with streamers and leeches along the rocky shore and the coves, and the upper end where the North Platte comes in from Fremont Canyon. Summer brings boat traffic and walleye. Wyoming's general limits apply, with special ice fishing provisions in winter.
