Oregon
Paulina Lake lies just west of East Lake in the Newberry Caldera, at about 6,300 feet, and at some 250 feet it is the deeper of the two. It is best known for large brown trout and kokanee, with stocked rainbows, and tiger trout stocked to eat chubs, which must be released. Hot springs seep in along the east shore.
Fly fishing is best in the shallow bays and along the shoreline shelves, where fish cruise in early summer. Chironomids and leeches on an indicator or a slow line work, and big browns take streamers in fall. Much of the lake drops off fast, so a boat helps. The caldera road closes with the snow, so the season runs from late spring into fall.
